The Calgary International Airport (YYC), opened in the fall of 2016 after 15 years of planning and five years of construction. The project cost $2 billion and the design not only features the aesthetic beauty of Alberta’s environment, it was designed with the environment in mind through sustainable practices. YYC’s annual energy consumption is reduced by 95% and annual greenhouse gas is reduced by 62% by using geo-thermal radiant floor heating/cooling. Other sustainable features include high-performance double wall façades with active louvres to trap heat and retain views, motorized horizontal blinds and operable windows integrated with solar tracking sensors, customized sunshade solutions with internal and externals blinds and customized four-sided, triple-glazed solution for optimized insulating values.
